Lecture 5

The realtionship between society and technology was discussed today. There are several competing theories of technology. Instrumentalism, Substantivism and Social Constructivism were all discussed. When you think about each of these ideas they all seem to make sense. In a way its confusing how they do all make sense, because how do you know which one is right??

It was interesting to learn from the readings, how blogging is used in so many different ways. People often find it easier to express themselves through blogs, because although they know that other people are reading them, the elimination of the F2F element, gives them more confidence to say what they want.

The mass info that blogging and the net provide is amazing and can be overwhelming. It is sometimes hard to sort through this info and work out what is actaully true and what is being distorted. We must be careful what we beleive.
